Raphaël

Close 22 / 46

In 2017, Raphael Haroche received the Prix Goncourt for short story writing for “Retourner à la mer” (Return to the Sea), published in Gallimard's 'Collection Blanche.

It’s almost a logical continuation for an artist who, under the name Raphael and perhaps slightly more recognized, continuously writes snapshots of life, much like short stories. Raphael quickly immersed himself in the music of his idols: Alain Bashung, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Barbara, Renaud, Gérard Manset, and David Bowie, for whom he opened in 2002 at the Olympia. Raphael made his mark in three steps: in 2000, “Hôtel de l’Univers” (a reference to Rimbaud) received critical acclaim; in 2003, the track “Sur la route” from his second album “La Réalité” was a success; in 2005, his album “Caravane” went diamond – selling 1.8 million copies and earning three Victoires de la Musique (french music awards) (artist, album, song, a winning trio). Until 2017, Raphael released seven studio albums. In 2011, a live album came out, directed by Jacques Audiard, whose tracks were filmed by the French filmmaker with a Palme d'Or. Raphael composed the soundtracks for several films, notably those of Samuel Benchetritt: “Un voyage,” “Asphalte,” and “Chien”.
